adidas Creator Base – embracing World Cup fever for its biggest UK football activation

Launching the Adidas Creator Base, its most ambitious UK live experience, to engage London’s football-obsessed youth. adidas invited some of the best talent from the worlds of music, sport and entertainment to come through and strut their stuff. At the space, there were one-off workshops which allowed participants to get involved into the adidas creative process, where bespoke shirts, football cages, mini DIY-sneakers and more were all made as part of workshops held throughout the week, with everyone from England Women’s football players to Stormzy all heading down to join in the action.

Bringing together people from all across London in a space that celebrated the clash of football, culture and creativity, adidas laid on a specially designed and installed football pitch, a live music space with performances every night, a live radio broadcast space hosted by REPREZENT Radio, a World Cup screening room, a creator workshop and a EA Sports FIFA lounge. With all of this, adidas needed to ensure their heritage kits from previous world cups were celebrated and the new kits were showcased well at the events. We were brought on board to help them advertise the space through digital channels with the aim of creating a clear platform for the new kits.

We created a unique and modular design system built with a number of vibrant patterns that can be taken apart and adapted across multiple digital and print touchpoints. Each pattern in these designs were inspired by the patterns on the various Adidas jerseys for the World Cup squads who they were sponsoring. We wanted the design framework to be scalable and versatile for any of the other teams involved to be able to quickly build branded assets.
